Out And About This Week…

The Buzz in Bardon!
There are some little luxuries cropping up on Lewin Street and it appears that treating yourself is de rigeur when living in this coveted Bardon pocket.
Over the past few years we’ve seen a substantial increase in the amount of boutique coffee shops, bars and grocery stores (and amalgamations of all three), hidden away in little suburban nooks and crannies, where the locals in the know meet, chat, indulge and relax. From Ashgrove’s new Pasta Pizza Deli to Cockadoodle at Red Hill, there are options for great food, great coffee and good times close to you! But in Bardon’s Lewin Street, be treated to beauty, hair, coffee and convenience all at the same time!
Local purveyors of beautification and style, Denise Lilley & Roslyn Camuglia of Denise Lilley Hair Design & RC Designs respectively, share the burden of keeping the locals well coiffed at the one convenient Lewin Street location.
Both Denise and Roslyn embrace the inclusive community nature of the area. Denise states that the “shop is part of the community and people are really comfortable there, it’s a professional business but has a lovely quality of people being able to be themselves and relax and enjoy.” And, as we all know, if anyone knows what’s going on in the area, it’s the hairdressers.
Having owned the property since 1990 and raising her family in the renovated dwelling attached to the salon, Denise is not only an advocate for the community, but also for the business savvy locals who currently reside there -she equates the success of her business with repeat clientele and referrals from satisfied customers, word of mouth is big in this little pocket.
With the recent addition of the Lewin Street Store, which offers patrons freshly baked boutique breads and brownies, connoisseur-worthy coffees alongside fresh, local produce and everyday essentials can only help to increase the Lewin Street appeal and create a meeting place alongside the salon for catch up chats and after school treats. Great coffee and great hair in the one easy location? We’re sold.

A Facelift for A Local Landmark
Looking to the stars and pondering the universe seems a little too alien (pun intended) for most of us during the business
of our day to day lives, but one particular Brisbane institution offers kids and those young at heart an opportunity to do just that – and with a recent million dollar refurbishment, there is no better ways to look at our
solar system in style!
The Sir Thomas Brisbane Planetarium, which first opened it’s doors in 1978, has given recent generations of Brisbane locals hours of enjoyment and wonderment and offers parents the perfect location to learn with their kids, no matter what the weather is like outside.

Sample Some of Our Area’s Best!
There’s plenty to do this weekend in Paddington and its surrounds. Why not stay out of the rain and make your way to The Barracks for a movie and a bite to eat – you can’t go wrong with some tapas and an aperitif at Peasant or some sushi or some gourmet fish and chips… The choices are numerous and they’re all yours!
Go on, treat yourself.
