The storied site on the corner of Caxton Street and Petrie Terrace – previously home to Fritzenberger – was reborn in 2023. Four friends – Tory, Lauren, Johnny and Kerry – came together to make the space their own, transforming it into boutique booze maker Caxton Street Brewing Co. With an aim to give the iconic party strip a fresh-faced watering hole where beers made on site are available alongside froths from other fresh and fun makers, the foursome have recruited Chris Bevin, previously of Geebung’s Hub Brewing, to spearhead the brewing process. Of a total four tanks, two are tasked with the concoction of a small range of core beers while another will be dedicated to what the team dubs ‘exploration and variation’. Regular fixtures including a session ale, a Helles-style lager, a hazy IPA and a low-carb lager, as well as quirky small-batch sips like a Ribena sour, a mixed-berry cider and a black lager. An on-site kitchen is pumping out a menu of pub-style food with Australian and American influences – think simple and approachable eats with a focus on flavours that pair perfectly with a cold one. The bunker downstairs has been refurbished and is used for private events as well as regular comedy nights from the Good Chat crew.
