Well-regarded Japanese restaurant Komeyui expanded to Brisbane in 2023, taking over a killer on Wharf Street in Spring Hill. The brainchild of chef Motomu Kumano, Komeyui has been showcasing traditional, Japanese culinary delights since opening in Port Melbourne in 2011.
The Spring Hill restaurant, located inside the old Australian Federal Police building, has been being reimagined by architecture and design firm Baenziger Coles to resemble more of a gallery than a restaurant space. Komeyui brings its seasonal a la carte, omakase and kaiseki menus to Brisbane, showing off dishes like red bean sticky rice with matcha jelly and azuki cream, white-fish-stuffed zucchini flower with tapioca pearl and ankake, wagyu tartare with soy-marinated egg yolk, roasted rice puff and beluga caviar, and melt-in-your-mouth sashimi, sushi and bento lunch specials.
A bar also dispenses a selection of cocktails, sake, wine and whisky.
