Looking for something exciting to do on your lunch break? Have you got an hour or two to kill on the weekend? Well, we have found the perfect activity for you – a leisurely stroll through State Library of Queensland’s Gallery Walk.
Art, culture and history lovers can take a self-guided tour of State Library and discover a treasure chest of gems, from the many gallery spaces and showcases to exhibitions and art works. You can check out pop-up exhibitions like Cut Copy, which delves into Brisbane’s punk-rock music past and Big Voices: Children’s Art Matters, which celebrates the courage and creativity of children sharing their stories through art. You can also discover rare reads including highlights from one of Australia’s largest publicly available collections of artists’ books, immerse yourself in Queensland’s awe-inspiring shared history in the intimate Philip Bacon Heritage Gallery or check out the Paradigm Maquette by acclaimed American sculptor Jon Barlow Hudson, created for World Expo ’88. All you have to do is pick up a guide on level one and check in to check it out. Don’t forget to pop in to the library shop on level one before you leave so you can score a memento of your visit – or a cheeky gift for someone special.
The Gallery Walk is open every day for your adventuring pleasure. To learn more about the Gallery Walk, head to the State Library of Queensland website.
